Bible. New Testament. Gospel. From Mark the Holy Gospel. Chapter 7
Chapter 7
The Pharisees and some of the scribes who had come from Jerusalem gathered to him,
And when they saw some of His disciples eating bread with unclean, that is, unwashed hands, they rebuked them.
For the Pharisees and all the Jews, holding fast to the tradition of the elders, do not eat without having thoroughly washed their hands;
And [coming] from the market, they do not eat without having washed themselves. There are many other things that they took to hold on to: watch the washing of bowls, mugs, cauldrons and benches.
Then the Pharisees and scribes ask Him: why do not Your disciples walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?
He answered and said to them, Isaiah prophesied well against you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honor me with their lips, but their heart is far from me,
but in vain they worship me, teaching doctrines, the commandments of men.
For having left the commandment of God, hold fast to the tradition of men, to the washing of mugs and bowls, and do many other things like these.
And he said to them, Is it good [that] you set aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition?
For Moses said: Honor your father and your mother; and: whoever curses his father or mother, let him die by death.
But you say: whoever says to a father or mother: Korvan, that is, a gift [to God] that which you would use from me,
You are already allowing nothing to be done for your father or your mother,
making void the word of God by your tradition, which you established; and do a lot of things like that.
And he called all the people, and said to them, Listen to Me, all of you, and understand:
Nothing that enters a person from outside can defile him; but what comes out of it defiles a person.
If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!
And when he entered the house from the people, his disciples asked him about the parable.
He said to them, Are you also so stupid? Do you not understand that nothing that enters a person from without can defile him?
For it does not enter into his heart, but into his belly, and goes out, [by which] all food is purified.
Then he said, What comes out of a man defiles a man.
For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
theft, covetousness, malice, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness,
All this evil comes from within and defiles a person.
And departing from there, he came into the regions of Tyre, and Sidon; and entering the house, he did not want anyone to know; but he couldn't hide.
For a woman whose daughter had an unclean spirit heard about him, and she came and fell at his feet;
And the woman was a Gentile, a Syro-Phoenician by birth; and asked Him to cast the demon out of her daughter.
But Jesus said to her, First let the children be satisfied, for it is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs.
And she said to him in answer, Yes, Lord; but the dogs under the table eat the crumbs of the children.
And he said to her, For this word, go; the demon has left your daughter.
And when she came to her house, she found that the demon had gone out and her daughter was lying on the bed.
Coming out of the borders of Tire and Sidon, [Jesus] again went to the Sea of Galilee through the borders of Decapolis.
They brought to him a deaf man who was tongue-tied, and begged him to lay his hand on him.
[Jesus] took him aside from the people, put his fingers in his ears, and spitting, touched his tongue;
And looking up to heaven, he sighed and said to him, Effathah, that is, open.
And immediately his hearing was opened, and the bands of his tongue were loosed, and he began to speak plainly.
And he commanded them not to tell anyone. But no matter how much He forbade them, they divulged even more.
And they marveled exceedingly, and said, He does everything well, and makes the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.
