Bible. Old Testament. Book of Job. Chapter 38
Chapter 38
The Lord answered Job out of the storm and said:
Who is this who darkens Providence with words without meaning?
Now gird up your loins like a man: I will ask you, and you explain to Me:
Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me if you know.
Who gave her a measure, if you know? or who stretched the rope along it?
On what are its foundations established, or who laid its cornerstone,
When the morning stars rejoiced in general, when all the sons of God shouted for joy?
Who closed the sea with gates, when it sprang up, it came out as if from a womb,
when I made the clouds his clothes and the darkness his sheets,
and confirmed My decree for him, and set up bars and gates,
And he said, Until now you have reached and you have not passed, and here is the end of your haughty waves?
Have you ever in your life given orders to the morning and pointed out to the dawn its place,
so that it may cover the ends of the earth and shake off the wicked from it,
so that [the earth] will change like clay under a seal and become like a garment of many colors,
And that their light be taken away from the wicked, and their bold hand broken?
Have you descended into the depths of the sea, and entered into the search of the abyss?
Have you opened the gates of death, and have you seen the gates of the shadow of death?
Have you seen the breadth of the earth? Explain if you know all this.
Where is the way to the habitation of light, and where is the place of darkness?
You, of course, reached her borders and know the paths to her house.
You know this because you were already born then, and the number of your days is very great.
Have you entered the storehouses of snow, or seen the treasures of hail,
which I keep for a time of trouble, for a day of battle and war?
In what way does the light shine and the east wind blow over the earth?
Who makes channels for the outpouring of water and a path for thunderous lightning,
that it may rain on a deserted land, on a desert where there is no man,
to saturate the desert and the steppe, and stir up the germs of grass to increase?
Does the rain have a father? or who gives birth to dewdrops?
From whose womb comes the ice, and the hoarfrost of heaven, who gives birth to it?
The waters, like a stone, grow stronger, and the surface of the abyss freezes.
Can you tie the knot of Him and loosen the bonds of Kesil?
Can you bring out the constellations in due time and guide As with her children?
Do you know the ordinances of heaven, can you establish his dominion on earth?
Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, so that the water will cover you in abundance?
Can you send lightning, and will they go and say to you, Here we are?
Who put wisdom into the heart, or who gave meaning to the mind?
Who can number the clouds with his wisdom and hold the vessels of heaven,
when dust turns to mud and lumps stick together?
Do you catch the prey of the lioness and feed the young lions,
when they lie in dens or lie in wait under the shade?
Who prepares his food for the raven when his chicks cry out to God, wandering without food?
